A precision made self-working gimmick that your spectator cannot open until they put in their wedding date or birthday. You genuinely have no idea in advance of this random date that they use to open the padlock.

The padlock is in your spectator's hands throughout the effect so there is no chance of any trickery or funny handling.

One handling idea has you taking the wedding rings from a married couple whom you have never met before and locking them onto the padlock. You hand your couple the padlock and try as they like they cannot open it, the audience can even give them random numbers to try on the combination. You now ask them for the first time what year they were married in. They tell the audience the date then without you ever touching the padlock, enter those numbers and free their wedding rings.

Another routine has the padlock being handed around the audience with people trying to find the code unsuccessfully. You then  get one audience member to hold the padlock tightly in their hand, concentrating and imagining the padlock opening. You now ask them to put in the birth year of one of their parents, or even their own - amazingly the lock opens.

No threads or magnets, no timed openings, no remote controls, buttons or gravity switches - the lock is totally self-contained. Definitely no stooges.
